Blues to Green is an innovative nonprofit utilizing music and art to strengthen communities, foster social responsibility, and embrace environmental stewardship. We offer arts access through free music festivals, public talks, workshops and instructional programs, and multimedia presentations. All celebrate the rich heritage of American music (especially created by communities of color), provide educational and artistic opportunities for underserved youth, model sustainable practices, raise awareness about social and environmental issues, bring cultural and economic revitalization to disadvantaged areas, and/or boost other nonprofits.
Blues to Green's signature event is the Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival. Every August, the annual Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival draws an excited crowd of Springfield residents and visitors to picnic together on the grass enjoying world-class music played by local talent and national legends. They watch youth dance and theater performances, then get up to join in fun art and music activities for adults and children. Festival-goers savor diverse cuisines from local restaurateurs, wander booths shopping for art and goods from a variety of local merchants, and stop to learn about nonprofits serving the city. Before event day, audience members gear up by attending workshops taught by famous musicians. Critics recently called our event one of the best new jazz festivals in the US, and it was actually featured in a Jazz Times article/photo gallery alongside the famous Newport and North Sea Jazz Festivals. Our event not only rivals the talent in the nation’s best jazz festivals, but also makes it accessible for free to low income people of color, and advances the economic and cultural revitalization of Springfield. This free, unticketed, eco-friendly festival is a building block for a thriving Springfield.
